According to Turkish Statistical Institute, the number of museums in Turkey increased by 13 museums and reached 451 in 2018. Out of these, 200 museums were affiliated to Culture and Tourism Ministry, while 251 of them were owned by private.
Number of visitors museums and ruins affiliated to the Culture and Tourism Ministry amounted to 28.1 million which was an increase of 37.3 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017.
In Turkey, the number of visitors paid for entrance to museums and historical sites affiliated to the Ministry was increased by 44.5 per cent compared to the previous year. The number of visitors paid for entrance to museums and historical sites affiliated to Ministry in 2018 was 65.7 per cent with 18.5 million visitors. The number of unpaid visitors to museums and archaeological sites was estimated as 9.6 million and share in total visitors was realized as 34.3 per cent in 2018.
Number of the national parks was increased by 4.8 per cent and the number of nature parks was increased by 9 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017. The area of the national parks was increased by 2.5 per cent and the total area of the nature parks was increased by 3.9 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017. The number of nature parks reached to 243 and total area of them increased to 106,453 hectares in 2018.
